It's reported today that HPE's new OneView on-ramp solution automates the configuring of ProLiant DL enterprise servers as well as HPE's BladeSystem, saving a lot of time for busy system admins.

HP's new OneView system consists of clever management and infrastructure automation software for HPE's BladeSystem.

Its rackmount chassis holding ProLiant server blades (think of C-7000 and C-3000 enclosures), and Synergy composable infrastructure.

V3.0 also adds support for ProLiant DL-300 series and 500 series rack servers, in both 1U and 2U configurations.

Users also get remote support automation, an expanded partner ecosystem, a OneView Global Dashboard, and better firmware and driver support.

RAID configuration data can be included in a server profile. A list of firmware and software driver definition and installation, boot order, BIOS configuration, and local storage configuration is also available.

It's a bit of a software-defined server. HPE system engineer Jeff Holderfield writes that a new bare metal server can be turned into a configured server part of an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) offering.

Adding the Raid details is a natural inclusion and could save a lot of system admins a lot of time by automating that part of the configuration job.

Install fresh server hardware. Then feed OneView the already-prepared server profile and bare metal becomes a usable system. OneView is an IaaS server on-ramp. It will be interesting to see how this project evolves over time. When it comes to enterprise server innovation, HPE always seems to have a leg up over its competition, and has been for the past 12 to 15 years.
