Earlier this morning, Toshiba said it's now making a 7.68 TB version of its dual-port ZD-6000 NVMe flash drive available, and DDN storage is using the drive in its IME-14K burst buffer solution.

To be sure, this actually complements Apeiron's use of the 1.6 TB and 3.2 TB versions in its NVMe flash array, at least for now anyways.

Toshiba's announcement today does mention that the ZD-6000 has increased input/output performance compared to older models.

The company asserts that its IME-14K can scale up to 48 x ZF-6000 drives with storage capacities ranging from 800 GB to 7.68 TB.

A drive image reveals the product model number to be ZD-635E020 and this is a Toshiba OCZ Z-Drive designation, we are told.

There are three OCZ Z-Drive ZD-6000 implementations-- the ZD-6000, ZD-6300 and ZD-6300 'Max Cap'.

The ZD-6000 uses 19nm MLC flash whereas the other two use 19nm eMLC NAND. The ZD-6000's usable storage capacities are 800 GB, 1.6 TB, and 3.2 TB.

For the ZD-6300, the usable capacities are 800 GB, 1.6 TB, 3.2 TB, and 6.4 TB, while the numbers for the ZD-6300 Max Cap model are 960 GB, 1.92 TB, and 3.84 TB.

The DDN ZD-6300 product line has a different capacity level (7.68 TB) and that is a customized product for the DDN implementation.

We might expect that over time, 3D NAND will be used to bump up the ZD-6000 product capacities further, potentially doubling them by early 2017.
